Get to Know Us
NMDCE was formed in 2022 by Nick Drew following 30 years with a well known and respected firm of consulting engineers where Nick was managing director for the last 15 years.
NMD Consulting Engineers was founded by Nick Drew IEng IMStructE, AMICE, ACABE a qualified Incorporated Structural Engineer and member of the Institution of Structural Engineers, with over 36 years’ experience in the building industry.

Nick began his career in engineering in 1989 as a ‘Trainee Technician’ where he joined a local firm of Consulting Engineers in Exminster, Devon. Nick then continued his academic training at Exeter College where he studied part time for 5 years where he successfully completed his ONC and HNC in Civil Engineering Studies.

In 1994, post recession, Nick joined another well-known firm of consulting engineers based in the centre of Exeter. During this period Nick was introduced to basic structural design where he flourished and particularly enjoyed the analysis and design of steel framed structures.

Following a further 5 years design experience, Nick successfully sat and passed the IstructE 7.5 hour exam and in 2000 was elected an Incorporated Structural Engineer (IMIstructE) and registered with the Institution of Structural Engineer. In the same year Nick was registered as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with the Engineering Council.

Nick became a director/shareholder of the business in 2008 and following the retirement of the managing director in 2012 he became Managing Director and saw the business grow into one of the largest privately owned consulting Engineers in the Southwest, which at the peak employed 22 technical staff.
